Ranking the 12 players to play for Liverpool and Chelsea in the PL era

Liverpool and Chelsea have had their fair share of battles in the Premier League over the years and they have also shared some brilliant players in that time.

Throughout the 2000s their rivalry was one of the most entertaining in English football. These two sides very rarely disappointed when they came up against each other.

With that in mind, we’ve picked out the 13 players that have played for Liverpool and Chelsea in the Premier League era and ranked them from worst to best.

Across his spells for both club’s he made a total of 66 appearances and scored 11 goals. He also came on as a second-half substitute during Chelsea’s 2012 FA Cup triumph against his former side.

12. Fabio Borini
The Italian forward made his first-ever professional appearance for Chelsea after they had picked him up from the Bologna academy. He was also Brendan Rodgers’ first Liverpool signing. In the end, he only lasted a couple of years at Anfield until he moved on.

Liverpool fans were only treated to one season of the Frenchman as he spent the 2001–02 season on loan at Anfield. During his spell at the club he scored five goals in 22 appearances.

11. Bolo Zenden
Injuries hampered Zenden’s spells with both Chelsea and Liverpool. He still managed to have a catalogue of moments though, including starring in Liverpool’s famous Champions League semi-final triumph in 2007.

8. Victor Moses
Antonio Conte brought the best out of Moses and moulded him into a Premier League-winning wing-back in 2016-17. His brief spell with Liverpool was less impressive, but he filled a gap in their squad for a year.

7. Yossi Benayoun
The popular playmaker has been a cult hero at almost every club he has played for – and he’s played for a lot of teams. He enjoyed a career which spanned over 20 years and saw him play for 11 different clubs.

His best stint in England was spent with Liverpool where he scored 29 goals in 134 appearances. His Chelsea career was kept short but sweet as he made just 24 appearances. He did play a role in their victorious 2012-13 Europa League campaign to be fair.

6. Raheem Sterling
There’s no doubt that Sterling is a Premier League great, but his best moments have come in a Manchester City shirt. He was electric when he first burst onto the scene with Liverpool in 2012.

Sterling made a total of 129 appearances for the Reds and scored 23 goals. He made the switch over to Stamford Bridge in the summer but is yet to really get going in a Chelsea shirt.

His brief stint at Liverpool was perhaps less remarkable, but during his peak Cole was a joy to watch each week.

4. Nicolas Anelka
The Frenchman played for six different English clubs throughout his career, but he enjoyed his most prolific spell with Chelsea between 2008-2012. Signed for £15million, Anelka went on to score 59 goals for Chelsea and won four trophies.

3. Daniel Sturridge
The version of Sturridge we saw for Liverpool between 2012-2014 was unstoppable. He along with Luis Suarez formed a formidable partnership in that time which almost saw them win the league.

Considering that plenty of his appearances came from the bench whilst he was with Chelsea, his goal return of 24 in 96 games is also respectable for them.

2. Fernando Torres
The Spanish forward didn’t have the best of time at Stamford Bridge after his £50million move, but he still played a key role in their Champions League triumph with that goal against Barcelona.

In a Liverpool shirt he was absolutely untouchable. With 81 goals in 142 appearances for the Reds, he is one of the best strikers of the Premier League era.

Who else but the Egyptian King?
