The Batman sees Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight inject himself with a mysterious substance that briefly causes a change, so what exactly is it?

Robert Pattinson's Batman injects himself with a mystery green substance in The Batman, with a couple of possibilities as to what it actually is. The Batman's version of the Dark Knight is different to any before, in particular with how brutal he is. Pattinson's take on the character doesn't kill, but he does give himself over to his inner-rage and violent urges, only stopping himself in the final moments, pushing himself close to the edge on several occasions. That's no more evident than in The Batman's ending, when he takes down a Riddler goon and almost loses control.

The moment comes when Batman has nearly been defeated by the Riddler's army, but it's aided by a substance of some kind. Fading fast and with Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz) in danger, Batman pulls out a syringe and injects himself with what looks like a green serum. The impact is instantaneous, with a revived Batman beating the Riddler goon (who is revealed to be the same guy he speaks to at the funeral earlier in the movie) to within an inch of his life, only stopped by those closest to him.

The Batman never explains what liquid Pattinson's Bruce Wayne injects himself with, despite showing such startling effects. It's the first and only time he uses the substance in the movie, suggesting that it's something he has developed for such life-threatening, last-ditch emergencies, which also further implies how dangerous the green serum really is. It's possible, of course, that Batman injects himself with adrenaline or something similar, giving him that rush of energy, power, and rage that allows him to fight the Riddler goon and almost spin out of control. Similarly, it could be a steroid of some kind, perhaps even of Bruce's own devising, but what Batman injects himself with may also connect to another DC villain: Bane.

Is What Batman Injects Himself With Connected To Bane's Venom?

Given the color and the immediate change it brings about in the Dark Knight, it's possible Batman's green injection is Miraclo, a drug from DC Comics that served as a pre-cursor to Bane's Venom. The drug was developed and largely used by the hero Hourman, who discovered via researching and testing various vitamins and supplements that it gave him increased energy and super strength when he used it, with the effects not dissimilar to what happens to Batman here, although the movie is likely putting its own tweaks on it. The drug certainly looks similar, and would fit well within Pattinson's Batman universe, especially as a tease for more. In the comics, Miraclo itself is used as the basis for Venom, the enhancement that gives Bane much of his incredible strength.

It's unlikely that what Batman injects himself with is Venom itself, simply because the effects aren't that severe - if Batman had injected Venom into himself in The Batman, then it's likely there would've been a more dramatic shift in his physical strength and demeanour, and it's a serum more commonly associated with villains. With that, it being Miraclo, or this universe's version of it, would make sense as a substance as perhaps Bruce has created with good intentions, which can then be stolen and misused to lead to Bane in The Batman 2 or 3, giving the villain a deeper connection to Batman.
